Effective Treatment for Bags Under Your Eyes

Effective Treatment for Bags Under Your Eyes

No matter how much sleep you try to get – or how many cold compresses you apply to your face – there’s a ringing truth that you can’t escape: you have bags under your eyes.  It seems as though these bags have permanently moved in and set up residence under your eyes, making it difficult for you to appear well-rested, youthful, and reenergized.  Even the longest nap and biggest cup of coffee can’t seem to touch the bags that are currently your biggest cosmetic woe. You may also notice that the skin on the upper eyelid has become droopy and may be hanging over your eyes. It may even be difficult to apply eyelid make up!

If the above sounds familiar to you, it’s time to put down the expensive eye cream and take up a more advanced treatment option that will provide you with the results you’re looking for.  Blepharoplasty – also known as an eyelid lift – can provide you with the relief you need from those bags under your eyes as well as the excess skin on your upper eyelids.  This cosmetic procedure can also provide significant relief to patients who may be experiencing loss of vision as a result of drooping skin from the upper lids around the eye area.  The culprit here is a gradual stretching of the skin in the upper lids, leading to the heavy, redundant skin that makes you appear tired and older. In the lower lids, the internal orbital septum stretches with aging, allowing fatty tissue to bulge forward, producing unwanted bags under the eyes.

At the Center for Ophthalmology and Laser Surgery in Lighthouse Point – also serving surrounding South Florida areas – Dr. Loeffler specializes in oculoplastics, which refers to cosmetic procedures performed around the eye area.  As an ophthalmologist, Dr. Loeffler has the experience and skills necessary for ideal results, while preserving a patient’s ocular health and vision.

During a blepharoplasty with Dr. Loeffler, patients can expect to undergo the following steps:

  • Dr. Loeffler will use a local anesthesia to numb the treatment area.  Because this type of blepharoplasty only uses tiny incision (which are made by a laser), this procedure is regarded as an outpatient treatment. Of course you will be sedated and very comfortable.
  • Dr. Loeffler will remove excess fat from the undereye area via the tiny incisions.  Excess skin from the upper lid area may also be removed if needed.
  • If necessary, Dr. Loeffler will pull and trim excess skin around the eyes, thus producing a more alert and energetic appearance.
  • Dr. Loeffler will stitch up the incisions and provide the patient with after-treatment recovery procedures.

As you can see, this blepharoplasty is relatively simple and can be performed in the course of an afternoon.  As there’s usually no general anesthesia involved, risks and side effects are typically minimum.

If you’re interested in undergoing a blepharoplasty procedure at the Center for Ophthalmology and Laser Surgery, schedule a consultation with Dr. Loeffler today for more information. (954) 786-5353
